Some commentators on the web blogs suggest Walmart did the $4 prescription program to counter bad publicity and pressure from Florida legislature setting up a force employers to provide health insurance law, targeted at Walmart. State officials claiming Walmart was not providing health insurance to lower income employees resulting in the state having to pick up Millions in low income health costs. In order to get legislature off their back about not providing health insurance for low income employees and state having to pick up the tab, Walmart is alleged to have launched this low cost drug program, which seems to have worked well and is expanded to other states to accomplish the same goal. Favorable publicity worked so well in Florida, they are now using it all over for the same reason the blogger's suggest. It really does not matter why Walmart launched it, it is up and running and by supporting and using it and creating big volume, it will continue and likely be further expanded, especially if more get into it.
Target should be admired and supported for jumping in and by their doing
so this will force Walmart to continue the program.
