"Based on the research and information I have on My Insulin Level April 07 the following makes sense to me," Harlan Jacobsen Copyright ©2007 |

My Insulin level is a total mystery and is all over the place. Am I the only one interested in the on going Insulin level changes? One of the amazing things is my weight. I can knock my self out working (physical activity) and not eat like I would like, and I get down once in a while to 196#. Mostly no matter what do I am stay right at 200#. Before cavemen diet, (after diagnosed with diabetes, had to do something) I was up in the 259 range. (I am six foot 3) Did not try to lose it, it just fell off. (about a year) Never ate concerned about my weight. Rather disappointed my waist never went down to where it should be, but it seems to be stabilized where it is - 3 inches too big. Scandinavians apparently inherit the tendency to hang on to enough stomach fat to keep your vital organs from freezing. Those that had some stomach fat survived the winter and became ancestors.
You really need to get informed on the alkaline acid body balance and it is not rocket science. Get and post a chart of what is acidic and what foods are alkaline. If you are on the caveman diet and keep from cooking everything and get on to raw , it should not be something you have to watch. This really gets me, seeing all these people checking this and that for acid, alkaline, etc., glycemic index, counting carbs, checking substitutes, reading labels, and on and on, even weighing their food for gods sake. That is not for me. I knew when the dietician started telling me I had to keep track of how many carbs etc., I had in each meal, add, subtract, look up levels, multiply just to have lunch, I said forget it...this is not going to happen long term which it has to be, so why start. That is why I started reading books, studies on the diabetes itself etc., and soon found what made sense to me.
Best of all it is easy, eat all I want, never keep track of anything...never go hungry, never write down anything, and once my finger prick tests and A1C lab tests showed I was beating by far what I ever did on medication, I have never looked back. Sure I look at my finger prick tests every now and then, but mainly paying attention to my lab test every three month, which by and large my doctor says are great, though he seems to like any figures, that I am not happy with. He for example, is not even interested in my insulin levels, no doctor seems to be. High insulin is one of the things that does bad body damage big time, and they are not interested in what my level is, or was or which way it is trending. I insisted it be taken a year ago, and it was 18. He says that is fine, I looked it up and 12 is normal. This time it was 5 which is ungodly low. What's going on here? He doesn't seem concerned about it. When it is high your pancreas is making a lot because you have high insulin resistance and your cells are not accepting it as I see it. If it is real low your pancreas are crapping out. (what else) Soon as I get time, have to research this some more. I suggest you get this insulin level added to your testing ritual, you really want to know what's happening here, is it going up or going down or what.
Bet you that your doctor has no idea what your insulin level is. A
diabetic, type one, has little or no natural insulin production. Did you know you can be a type two and also become a type one. (pancreas craps out) The highest I have read about was a woman who had a pancreas making one hundred times the normal insulin (this high insulin level causes all sorts of body damage,) and she was running near normal BG levels. In other words her pancreas was making enough extra insulin (huge amounts) to overcome the rising insulin resistance. Average diabetic is making 3 or 4 times normal insulin from what I read, and the insulin resistance gets higher and that pancreas has peaked out and its capability is exceeded and you are now labeled "diabetic". What gets me is they do not even want to know what your pancreas was doing. Was the insulin resistance getting so high it could not keep up or was it just shutting down, tired from trying to keep up? Are you dealing with a pooped out pancreas, or just ungodly high insulin resistance that keeps going up now well beyond normal capability to keep up with ever higher insulin resistance, and your poor little pancreas was doing great in a valiant try to keep up. Was your pancreas making lots of insulin and tried so hard to keep up and now it is exhausted and is giving up? The figures all show that diabetics over time all go down hill toward complications even if they do everything right, some take longer and stave it off better then others. What is my body doing? I think my blood pressure (well under control) triglycerides (fat in blood), (way down) and my insulin level (what is happening here?) are now appearing to be far more important to my life expectancy then my blood glucose reading. I want to know what's going on here, with my insulin thing. Two years into this and I still do not know. Do you?
