Diabetic Mind Set Change......
No longer a recreational eater where you reward yourself with great tasting food.

Now you eat for "maintenance", if it tastes good, great, if not no big deal.

HARLAN'S CHOCOLATE PUDDING RECIPE

Take one large container of "Plain" unflavored full fat yogurt (live culture) 12% fat or more, (grass fed if you can find it) unlikely.

Combine

  • One package of Jell-O Sugar free chocolate pudding
  • Tablespoon of Chocolate Ovaltine
  • 2 or MORE HEAPING tablespoons of Hershey's Dark Chocolate Cocoa. Dutch processed.
Stir this together good and pop in frig for 30 min or so. Serve like regular chocolate pudding.

Actually, for mine, I no longer bother with the Jell-O, and Ovaltine is an option. Helps you initially...

I eat this every evening, hour or two after evening meal. 1/3 of my days chocolate therapy.
If you are not getting enough fiber, add in a couple of teaspoons of Benefibre or some other drug store fiber that really does not show up or is not apparent. Also consider adding in some cinnamon, also helpful. ground cloves 1/2 teaspoon would be good.

HARLAN'S BREAKFAST RECIPE.

This is what works for me. Starts with table spoon of "Metamucil type fiber" in glass of water. actually I buy pysillium in bulk, practically free compared to drug store stuff and Metamucil has sugar in it.

Cereal (fiber) recipe is equal of several days mix...so instead of mixing it every day just make a big container full, with this ratio (heaping)

  • 5 Tablespoons of ground flaxseed.
  • 5 Tablespoons of Millers Wheat Bran
  • 5 Tablespoons of Oat Bran
  • 5 Tablespoons of Brewers Yeast
  • 5 Tablespoons of Quino, S. American non gluten cereal or substitute Wheat Germ
  • 5 Tablespoons of Hershey's Dark Coca, Dutch
  • Add a couple of teaspoons of cinnamon and if you like, (option) ground cloves and cayenne pepper, to taste (easy does it)
Stir that together and store and/or pour out in bowl what you want this am...add water, stir to runny paste, heat up if you like, I do not.

Add "plain" full fat (12% plus) yogurt on top. (or blend it together and make pudding.)

That is about 1/2 my fiber for the day and 1/3 my chocolate therapy.

Discuss my limited, fiber blended, orange juice elsewhere.

If you are not familiar...millers wheat bran is not a trade name it is just bran flour makers have left over from making white flour.

You can buy a pound for a buck in most organic type grocery stores. If you do not want to buy or mix any other fiber you can do fine for a month with a bucks worth of this fiber all by itself. Oat bran I also buy in bulk though it is available in a box.

Brewers yeast is expensive but has trace minerals etc you might not be getting elsewhere. Acquino, is a South American high Andes grain that is non gluten. Get it at most Organic type grocery stores. Once in a while find it on super market shelf with boxed of some type.

HARLAN'S AFTERNOON CHOCOLATE TEA BREAK

This is an important part of my afternoon.

Heat up conventional green tea (or cold ok too) Add 1 heaping, huge or more tablespoon of Hershey's Dark Chocolate Coca, Dutch processed, to finished brewing tea. Stir like crazy, (option) add cinnamon, cayenne pepper if you like ground cloves etc., all help to drastically lower blood sugar.

This is 1/3 of my days chocolate therapy.
Drink as you please. You can skip tea, (just use cocoa) but it helps overall program. Very inexpensive and just adds a moment.

I often make this cold and like if fine. It takes you a while to get on to liking coco with no sugar. Hang in there.

Milk added reportedly negates much of benefit of coco.

HARLAN'S FIBER RECIPE....

Average person getting 14 grams of fiber.

Josyln research suggests at least 50 grams for diabetics. Caveman had over 100 grams a day of fiber.

See the above for information on millers wheat bran and how $1 worth added to your diet per month will almost by itself get you over the fiber hurdle.

Here is my tip, and by adding fiber to almost everything and being able to cut sugar peaks when eating out etc by carrying a shaker of fiber in your pocket

Anything that is high glycemic and digests with a sugar rush is taboo for diabetics.

However, if you add fiber with it, this slows down sugar absorption and levels off the peaks. Therefore when on the road etc and have little choice of food, this can really help and be a life saver.

Buy at the Dollar store or somewhere that has a large shaker container for cinnamon. Large holes and some have a break away for larger outlet shake out., Find shaker with a screw on top that goes on over the hole part.

Dump the cinnamon in a sugar bowl for your table...(no longer need sugar, remember) Fill the shaker with some combination of fiber things you want to add to your food.
Suggestions...
Wheat bran, or Benefiber, or other commercial fiber etc and/or oat bran etc. Wheat germ, Cinnamon, Ground cloves, some Cayenne pepper, (very good if you can get used to it)

Mix this all up, but to tell you the truth, I even add a lot of chocolate coco powder to one version...though i do not like it added to some things. Anyway one sugar bowl that contains this mixture with chocolate and one that does not, might be a good idea and even two shakers for on the road. Just get on to adding fiber to everything including most liquids.

With coco in the mix you also augment that.
Try out what works for you.

This will all take a while to become "habit" and done on-going.
The metamucil type psyllium powder tablespoon in a glass of water before meals lowers you blood sugar 20% according to studies.

Adding cayenne pepper can cut sugar peaks 36% according to another and you already know about cinnamon.

Make up your own recipe and get after this fiber thing. It will catch you up faster then anything in getting your life to what your body was designed for.

Either in your pocket on the road or in the sugar bowl on the table, get to where you add it to most everything like you used to sprinkle salt, now you sprinkle fiber instead. (you have cut out all salt, remember) Cayenne pepper in your pepper shaker might work on the table. Many like using Tabasco sauce container to shake on and to get the same capisican effect.

You should have on your table a container that is a vinegar sprinkler type thing for adding apple cider vinegar to all the greens you can eat.
It alone will cut your blood sugar over 20%.

Unfortunately these 20% things do not add up nor are accumulative together. In other words two things that cut BG 20% will likely together cut it 24% not 40%.
