Basically, I am a writer, researcher, teacher, publisher, self employed all my life entrepreneur and diabetic, not necessarily in that order. So in order to save my own hide from a premature demise, I decided to combine all of those things I have become in one package. To make this work I have to research and find the answers (and solutions) promptly or it will be TOO LATE for me and many others. When I am researching and teaching something, in order to advance something well enough to explain it, I have to have thought it pretty well thru, far further then I would just have done for myself or own use. Therefore when I am writing I pretty well have it cleared up before I start and sometimes it unfolds as I write, so sharing it with you makes a better result for both you and me. Besides, I have an overzealous work ethic and this way makes it work, and I am happiest "at work". It took eight books before I even realized fully that diabetes was not something I caught or "got". It is something I accumulated. My favorite way to explain diabetes steps is to explain using the smoker, who most people by now understand. He smokes away, and he does not really ever "catch" and die from emphysema, lung cancer, heart attacks from shrunken arteries etc. They catch up to him. He probably first makes it apparent with a cough that it is starting to catch up. In other words there is a damage going on that accumulates, and when it gets accumulated to more then the body can handle, it wipes out. Certainly there are a few that get away with it for a life time, but not a good bet. Diabetes is like that, it is a damage primarily from diet and other inputs, that all along the way is accumulating bodily harm that is adding up. Sure there are some that get away with it (catches most if they live long enough) and it is getting to be a smaller and smaller percentage, because many have diabetes or pre diabetes and do not know it. When you are diagnosed with diabetes, you think that is the equivalent of the smoker being diagnosed with emphysema, lung cancer etc. It is not.......... It is like the smoker and his friends becoming aware of his cough and makes them aware that apparently some damage has been done. That took about another 50 books of input before I suddenly realized that being diagnosed with diabetes was not being diagnosed that I had something that would kill me. No, diabetes rarely does that, it is like the cough, it is telling you something is happening that is going to cause you complications, lots of body damage, if continued, but this cough (diabetes itself) is likely not going to kill you. You, with your diabetes diagnosis and he with his cough, you both are made aware you are now VERY susceptible and extremely vulnerable to some big killers that now have an inside track and unless you do something soon, you are on the goner list. So the smoker that quits can likely still die as a result of his smoking damage developing further even though he has quit, but if he quits in time, he improves his odds GREATLY. In fact a good chance if he takes the right steps, immediately after quitting and works at it, he may recover much of his lost life expectancy (never all). You can and likely will die of damage resulting from what set you up with diabetes, (cough equivalent) but if you quit in time (Stop further damage if nothing else) and give your body every chance to recoup, you very well may regain much of your life expectancy. Diabetes is just the cough... you are all made aware you better make some changes or what goes with and accompanies this is going to do you in. Sure, the smoker can ignore the cough warning and keep right on smoking, and coughing, and most do, and you would be amazed how many diabetics keep right on smoking, oops mean eating, like they were before. Sure the smoker has to deal with nicotine addiction, (they are hooked) and many would rather take a chance on dying soon, then go thru the extreme pain of quitting (withdrawal) and then have to give up the "pleasure" of their smoking. By the way you can substitute alcoholic here for the smoker if you like, it is a closer analogy but harder for some to understand. Like the smoker or the alcoholic, you are going to realize that continuing the present course is likely going to kill you, and you fully intend to quit, but you just find some excuse to postpone, forestall it til later when this or that, etc. To give up life's greatest pleasure which ever one of these, (or all of them) sweet foods, nicotine or alcohol, drugs etc you class as that, (your addiction) well, you are right, this will indeed take some real will power.
All (sugar and flour are a man made refined chemicals that are
addictive) will mean quitting will generate extreme WITHDRAWAL symptoms.
This can be defined as extreme pain. You not only give up your number one pleasure but to do so you have to go thru EXTREME withdrawal pain. Result: Smokers, Alcoholics, Sugar Addicts etc., will all talk quitting and be serious about it but somehow it will seem to revert back to what they have "always done". This is figuratively speaking, no booze involved. Related Article: What Kills 82% of Public - 85% of Diabetics, Is All One Disease
